The one that really made you cringe and wish you were deaf. (I don't mean any offence to the deaf community. By the way, where is the deaf community, is it next to chinatown? Sorry..) Anyway, I once seen a truck carring pigs overturn and catch fire. As the pigs were burning to death, they started squeeling as only pigs can..
It was unbearable. A coulpe of hundred pigs squeeling in deserate unison while they died. Nasty...

I don't mean to make light of the situation but it smelled delicious..

So what have you heard that had you screaming "MAKE IT STOP, GOD PLEASE, MAKE IT STOP!!" ?

I used to live in a village where there was a turkey farm. Around November time, they used to be 'culled' (I think). The noise that emenated from the building was part mechanical, part organic- it sounded like a big bit of metal being dropped- it was the grinding, screeching sort of noise. I don't know what a turkey in agony sounds like but it sank through your ears into your gut.
Then there was the night the same factory caught on fire.
Fortunately I didn't hear it- I smelt it though...

When I lived in Ireland many years ago there used to be a farm out in the country and when the lambs went to the slaughter it was the most horrific sound you could ever hear. They sounded like babies screaming and crying and they all knew what was coming - it broke my heart and I can't even bear the smell of lamb now let alone eat it

the most hideous sound is nails on a chalkboard, but the most annoying sound is people who think that everyone else needs to hear their cell phone conversation, so they turn the volume way up. ugh!
