What's wrong with people these days who go to public lavatories and don't wash their hands? We go out regularly in Manchester's Gay Village and people look at you like there's something wrong with you when you wash your hands after using the toilet. These dirty people then go on to use their phones, handle their drinks glass, touch their hair/face,and touch their partners & friends.Have personal hygiene standards really dipped so low these days?

Morahastits; as a regular down Manchesters Gay Village we have observed this lack of hygiene every weekend. One evening we were in Axm Bar where (if you go in there you will know) there is an open plan communal washroom that you can see into from the seating area-in the time it took to have 1 drink we saw 30 out of 35 people that walked right past the wash area and didn't wash their hands!! We might be cultured down there but next time if you pay attention you will see that a huge majority don't practise basic hygiene! Makes me cringe when i think of letting anyone touch me now-I don't even like shaking hands down there. We even saw it last night in View-the womens toilet door was propped open and 8 out of 10 came out of the cubicle and bypassed the soap & water-urgh!!! Obviously you don't pay much attention to hygiene standards around you. Watch next time you are in the Village-you'll see it for yourself!!

we've started using a hygienic hand rub now whenever we've come out of the toilets.Won't go out down the gay village without it!don't get me wrong it's a great place & we're not pointing fingers,it's just we don't drink anywhere else so can't comment on what other arers/bars outside of the village are like!

Obviously people (or most of them!) don't pee on their hands but men do hold their equipment to do what they have to do,we've seen a lot bypass the wash area and wipe their wet hands (pee riddled) on their pants. These are smartly dressed people who have obviously taken time over their appearance. Washrooms are full of germs obviously, but if they washed them properly it reduces the spread to some degree...the germs otherwise are being spread onto handrails, tables, everything you touch.

Here's a thought, most bacteria breed best in a moist environment. If you wash your hands in a public loo you touch the sink, the taps, the towel dispenser etc,you also touch the door on the way in and out as does all the other hundreds of people also using the same loo! It is actually more hygienic to try and keep your hands dry,you catch more nastiness than you clean by washing in a public loo! I'll go and hide now to avoid the backlash!

I reckon that everything you touch in a public loo is disgusting and filthy, crawling with germs and full of nasties.
Therefore I wait till I am out of the dirty lavvy and then I use my very own wet wipe out of my very clean bag and then I feel my hands are germ free.
In fact I look at the folk who wash their hands in these germy sinks and think they are brainwashed into this and do it to look good but haven't thought how they will collect even more bugs by doing this.
And don't even get me started on hot air hand dryers.
So look again at those who exit quickly as they may be rushing to get to a cleaner place to use those lovely wet wipes!

I am afriad so, personal hygiene has sunlk to a new low. Nowadays, People are more afraid of picking up germs fro washing their hands, by touching the faucets and everything than keeping it clean and washing their hands after they use the toilet.

that is why, apart from washing my hands, I don't touch the doors, flush, taps and anything in that general area. I wrap toilet roll round my hand. I would rather not sit on the seat either but I can't hover. I hate using public toilets anyway and would hold it in for hours until I get home. ughhh.

People in general are cleaner and more aware of hygiene. The trend is anti-bacterial soaps and cleansers nowadays. Scientists are saying we're too clean as a society.

WOW .. .you are really, really hung up on this hygiene thing. Looking in bathrooms, counting people, watching what they do, calling them "dirty people", lengthy replies of "clarification", etc. Sure, not the best thing to not wash your hands, but WOW . . . you are way over the top.
I do think you might want to check in with a mental health professional re: a possible phobia or as someone mentioned OCD.

Cripes! Just a thought - perhaps next time you go to a bar maybe don't position yourself outside the toilets and just try to have a nice time instead?
