Dh has a history degree. He had ZERO luck finding any job other than teaching or going to grad school (not exactly a job). We both got liberal arts degrees from the best state uni. in Texas, then ended up going to a smaller college to get accounting degrees. However, even though those liberal arts degrees did not lead to jobs in those fields, they have had great value. Classical liberal education teaches you to THINK & MAKE CRITICAL JUDGEMENTS of what you hear & read (things rarely learned in public high school). Dh is a brilliant business historian. He knows things about his employer's company that the founder's son did not know. He has a marvelous ability to see trends in business. Combined w/his financial analysis skills, this has made him a stock-picking genius.

In summary, please do not assume that a liberal arts degree has no value. Its value is simply much harder to quantify. If you asked DH, he would tell you that about 30% of his 6-figure income is attributable to the knowledge & skills he acquired while getting that degree. He would tell you to combine good classical education w/ learning practical skills.

It is awesome that you are thinking about this already. You are definitely on the right track. Best wishes to you.
