Could be simple or very complex. First go in to device manager and see if your audio devices are working. (Righ click on My Computer in the start menu, go to properties, click the Hardware tab, then click on Device Manager) click the little + sign next to "Sound video and game controllers." Right Click on each one, select Properties and see if it tells you whether or not the device is working properly. There is a "troubleshoot" button if it is not. When you first right click on each one there is an "Update drivers" option that can help too. If none of this works, contact a techy in person.

Can be a lengthy process to determine what caused it.
Best is if you can do a system restore to working time.
Else check device manager, uninstall the unknown device and reinstall the sound driver from your resource cd. Also check status under control panel after reinstalling driver.

on windows, go into control panel, click on sounds and multimedia and there should be a chek box for showint the icon in the tray, if you have no sound, try reinstalling the soundcard driver, go int control panel, system, device manager, if your sound card is screwed up there wil be a yellow triangle on it, just , first write down the name, you might need it to find the driver on the net if you don't already have it, right click and click remove, then when it's gone click refresh, it should start the hardware wizzard and loading, if windows doesn't have it on file that's when you go to the net and download a new driver

if your sound is working then.

1. click Start->Control Panel->Sound and Audio Devices
2. check mark: place volume icon in the taskbar
3. click ok

if your sound is not working or if you can not put a checkmark there, you most most likely have a problem with the sound driver
