My daughter's name is Brenna. She hates it because everyone is always mispronouncing it...they call her "Brenda" or "Brianna". Is it my mistake for giving her such an unusual name? I thought it was a pretty simple spelling, and easy to pronounce...why do people mispronounce it all the time?

It's kind of unusual but it's still a beautiful name. Instead of always being called Brenna, she should go by an abbreviation of it like Brenn or Bre.

Brenna is a beautiful name....I'm assuming they mispronounce it when it's written not spoken....people have a tendency to see what they want to see,,,,therefore Brenda or Brianna.
I had a rather common name in school...we were numbered 1,2,3,4...I hated it ...so when my first daughter was born I made up her name...Alina....with a e sound...however people continually called her it with an i....she wasn't too happy at first either...but loves it now that she's older...patience..

Give the ones mispronouncing it a swift kick in the **** and than mispronounce their names. That'll teach 'em.

EDIT: It is the same when they mispell your name. My name is Gus. Guess what, I get called Greg, Goose, Gary, Gust. It gets annoying. Especially since there are THREE, count them THREE letters in my name. Not to mention having it spelled Guss all the F******** Time. And Brenna is a pretty name. Forgot to say that.

People always mispronounce names, no matter how easy it is. I don't think the name Brenna's that unusual, anyway....but no matter what, it's too late to change it now!

I have seen a lot worse than "Brenna." Some people don't pronounce it right because when you say something, they listen to what they are thinking instead of what you are saying. They weren't paying close attention and just guessed at what you said.

I was a substitute teacher yesterday and I saw at least 15 names that I did not know how to pronounce.

How is that unusual? I knew a chic in school with the name Brenna too and nobody mispronounced it.

I think it's a cute name. People are always going to mispronounce names. People dont get my name wrong, but they constantly call my by a different name.

I just hate it when people don't try or just don't take the time to read through your name before they say it. It is not your fault. Brenna is a pretty name.

Just call her Bren. Thats cute short and no trouble with the mispronouncing anymore. She will get over it. Her true friends know what to call her right?

I know how you feel. When my daughter was born we named her Angelia....didn't check with any one about the spelling, which I learned later was "suppose" to be spelled Angela. People try to overemphasize the" i". I have apologized to her through the years and even offered to change the spelling on her birth certificate. She is 30 years old now, and she says she likes her name and the way that it is spelled.
