I don't plan on reaching Mars. There is just no way it will happen in my lifetime. I would be happy with a few days on the Moon. While there I would want to play 1/6 G games, walk around in a space suit and just look at the strange landscape. Typical tourist stuff. But that probably won't be possible in my lifetime either. Back in 1969 when Apollo was in full swing and Pan Am (now out of business) was taking reservations for the Moon, I really thought that by the year 2001 (which was the far distant future for me at the time) regular people would be able to travel to the Moon. How sad reality has become!

In what capacity do you imagine I would travel to Mars? Assuming I was sent to do a job there, I would spend my time doing that job. It's not like there's going to be many site-seeing opportunities for a while, you know?

Other than looking for Elvis, I'd probably be pretty busy maintaining the Martian base, along with the rest of the crew. One of the most important tasks would probably be maintaining the oxygen level, and I'm assuming that there would be large sections of the base dedicated completely to plant life (or oxygen generators, if that sort of technology exists). Other than that, there would be machinery to operate, new additions to be build, and plenty of resource gathering. And as stargazergurl (cool screen name) had said, I'll be looking for fossils too! Hope to see you there, man.

Hunting for life and fossils.
Enjoying the stark, natural beauty; imagine exploring one of the side canyons of Valles Marineris! Or atop Olympis Mons! Or at the south pole with the CO2 geysers!

I would make a base, and start a business mining Iron Ore, and be the galaxy's biggest business man. Mabey I could start a huge Lumber business as well, as I would figure Pines would grow really rapidly in the rich CO2 Atmosphere!!!
