First off; welcome to the bizarre world of international trade...and hang on for the ride of your life.

North America is such a large producer of paper products that sales from offshore aren't really viable here, but the rest of the world is (particularly Asia). Now depending on where you want to develop your customer base there are many places online to begin looking for deals.

Here's just a few examples:

Your best bet with the Korean market is probably going to be KITA:

For Taiwan go with:

The place you want to be at for Europe is BizEurope:

http://www.bizeurope.com/

If, however, you're looking for markets worldwide then you need to be at the biggest site of them all; Alibaba.com:

http://www.alibaba.com/

I will give you a word of warning right now, most people who will contact you are nothing more than flakes, dreamers and wannabe's...sorry, but that's just the way it is. If you want to filter out most of these then only allow contact from the site's paid members. Granted, that's a bit harsh but it truly does cut way down on the deadwood and cyber debris. Do not be a hypocrite though, make sure you're also signed on as a paid member. Not only will this give you enhanced access to all that the various sites have to offer, but it will also give your prospective customers some assurance of your commitment.

I'll close with one bit of advice for you; ALWAYS know EXACTLY with whom you are dealing! There is no other place in the world for you to be ripped off as easily as you can be in foreign trade. Check out your prospective customers in advance, double check their financing/payment BEFORE you ship and don't be afraid to insist on an L/C, T/T or pre-deposit if you have any inkling that all is not as it should be.

You will find, if this works out for you, that it will become one of the loves of your life. And feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

Best of luck.

Hi Pramod,
Can you please explain this a little more? What kind of trading? What kind, size, style? And are you really talking cardboard boxes?! Very curious.
Thanks!
