I don't think so, for a lot of reasons. Let's say someone majored in engineering, and only took engineering classes. They became an engineer, but 10 years down the road they decided that they would rather be in the business side of engineering projects than on the hands-on side. If they have no experience at all in college level writing, then they would make a very bad businessman.

Your general ed classes are for your education. Maybe it isn't directly relevant to your desired career, but you are gaining skills in writing, critical thinking, and problem solving, which will keep coming up throughout your life.

If you like hands-on training, then you should consider getting an internship or a co-op! The problem with everything being hands-on is that companies don't have the time to "train" you, and make a profit! It is expensive to give someone the background information, not to mention all the other things that you will learn in college (good critical thinking skills, communication skills, mathmatical skills, learning how to learn, etc.)!

Consider college AS your hands-on training! I know you don't believe it, but learning how to learn is one of the MOST important things to take to a "real-life" job!

Anyway, what if you change careers/professions??

I honestly believe that you learn more from hands-on-experience. It prepares you for all obstacles that you might face that you otherwise won't get from a classroom. However, college is great because you get such a wide variety of education that you may change your mind after you get your degree and you can change your profession. I always say, " A degree is a degree is a degree."
You can do anything with a degree.
