that he would send it to me. If he wants to share smutty stuff with other guys, that's his business, but I think its totally inappropriate to send this stuff to gals. How would you recommend that I let him know that I don't like such emails while still preserving our friendship?

This is simple.. and can be done in two ways.
1. Simply email him back and say what you just told all of us... or...
2. Confront him face to face.. and say the same.

In the world of Internet, people have become so numb. They often forget common sense and do things completely out of character. As long as people show this desensitized attitude... men, women and children are going to proceed sharing inappropriate behaviors over the Internet.

Take a stand! If it's something he doesn't share in person, there's no reason he should be sharing via e-mail. And unless you say something, it will not stop.

yeah, make a copy and give it to him. so he knows you have one somewhere. then look him in the eye and say, never again. then if i stops , never mention it again unless he makes a habit of harrassing someone else. once in a while a decent guy get s the wrong impression and gives something stupid a try to see where it gets him. Draw the line clearly and then forgive him if you think he is friend material.

Say this: i do not like that stuff and DO NOT SEND ME ANYTHING ELSE OR I WILL CALL THE LOCAL POLICE ON YOU! Then, you mean it like you are serrious!

And if he says anything else then just do whatever you have to do to protect yourself.
