The Founders of these United States knew that if we did not attempt to secure Liberty abroad we could not secure it here. The United States Navy was founded on the principal of defending the free use of the seas, Worldwide. Of all Nations on Earth, these United States, with people from all the World, stand uniquely qualified to fulfill a global mission. We have not become the 'Nanny' or 'Police' of the World, we have always been. I am glad to see this, as we have secured Liberty for Billions. G-d Bless these United States!

Perhaps America sees itself as the world's nanny.

On the other hand, a great many parts of the world see characters like Paris Hilton, Gordon Gecko (Wall Street) and Scott Farcus (Christmas Story) to be the epitome of America - vapid, superficial, greedy, arrogant and sadistic.

Not saying anything in particular besides the fact that perspective is everything. I don't think America is any of those things on the whole, but I also don't think America is the world's nanny either.

The cold war wasn't all that bad after all was it?

I've always thought that we've become the "Keystone Cops" in those black and white movies: My reason for this is that it seems most the these Third World Countries, when under attack, come to us for aid. (either through Advisers or our Troops.) Vietnam, we had advisers before soldiers were sent. Somalia, we sent troops to defend them.(Don't know if advisers were first on that one.) etc... And here's a thought; when you keep aiding these countries, shouldn't you get tribute?( Or more bluntly, something in return?)

No. That would be the United Nations. The U.S. is more like the annoying brother-in-law who keeps checking up on his sister to see how she's being treated.

No. That requires someone to hire us to take care of the little babies. We're more like a pedophiles. WE kidnap them and permanently damage them in the name of "love"
