Nearly all of the research into Sociopathy has involved evaluating the personality traits of adult men in prison. The reason for this is that researchers have easy access to adult prisoners and more prisoners are male. Think about it—how else would a researcher find sociopaths to study? The problem with studying Sociopathy in male prisoners is that we learn nothing about sociopaths who never get arrested. Does any know someone that has not been to prison with this disease?

yes, I was married to one for 18 years, who avoided prison because he was so good at lying. Sociopaths are also called antisocial personalities. That term is an oxymoron actually, there is nothing antisocial about them. They are very personable, and are pros at conning anyone. They can make anyone believe anything. But, they have no conscience whatsoever, which make them extremely dangerous. They are prone to violence, and tend to gravitate towards things that are violent, ie sports, indulgences, or things of extremes. Once you figure out someone is a sociopath, no matter how much you like them (because they are very likable), stay away from them. They are dangerous and will destroy your life and the lives of others.

A person is never going to come up to you and say Hi, I'm a sociopath. They are usually not labeled a sociopath until they end up in jail and tested. I for one have met two murderers who were caught when they had after commited their crimes. I looked at them as wierd and loners and angry. When it was found out that they had committed the murders, then did they say they were sociopaths. And yes, they were both males.

When most people think of sociopaths they think of murderers, serial killers, etc. However, there are nonviolent sociopaths all around us.

I suggest you read: The Sociopath Next Door. It's very informative, and an interesting read! I enjoyed it.
