Why do the majority of blacks support the Democrats?

The majority of blacks support the Democratic Party. Why, when the democrats were the party of slavery and continue with their programs to blacks and other minorities under their sway?

The democrats give handouts ie. welfare, free health insurance, etc. Many of the blacks are in another type of slavery - poverty. The republicans want to get them jobs, get them out of the ghetto where they can prosper instead of living a life of drugs and gangs. The democrats make their talk sound so great - FREE this FREE that, when in reality, the taxpayers pay. The democrats don't truly like blacks, they just want their vote, so they hand them money and food stamps.

I don't know why this is because Republicans have done much more for blacks than Dems. Abe Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. were both Republicans, and I think that they and Booker T. Washington would be SO disappointed with what is going on today. Booker T. Washington founded Tuskegee Institute so that black people could become educated and moral so that they could better exist with others and be successful. These great men would definitely not promote welfare, as the Dems do.

Because the Democrat's under Lyndon Johnson, Kennedy's and Clinton supported and still do support the Civil Rights Movement of the 60's and continue to do so today. Part of what the movement toward the Universal Health care program and motivation is to provide the poorest people in our Society with the Health Care they need along with the working poor.
The old Democratic Party of States Rights and Strum Thurmond became the Republican Party of Strum Thurmond and States Rights which included Republican bigotry toward the poor and ethnic minorities, Black, White, Yellow and Brown.
Republican love of War and Money is very obvious right now and your efforts to change the subject are not going to work because history is lined up against the Republican Party.

The transition occurred after democrats ended their support for slavery and republicans became more like the old democrats, who used to be conservative. Democrats are the "party of the people" and they support programs to help those African-Americans in need who feel oppressed by society.

For some not all the Government check is all they have and the Dem's make sure that it keeps coming in the mail in effect buying the black vote with your tax dollars. Look at New Orleans for example them people didn't even know how or what to do and waited for the government to save them instead of using their on good sense to get out of harms way. A majority of african american vote democratic. It was the democratic party that supported extremely important issues on behalf of african american people when the civil rights movement was boiling over in this country. President Johnson was responsible for this, and, he was, of course, a democrat.
