We have no access to anything but slow dial-up where I live, not even DSL through the phone lines. We are looking into getting satellite internet service and are considering Wild Blue. What experiences have you had with the various satellite providers?

A friend has heard about Wild Blue and 1) swears it is the only way to go; 2) says it is the least expensive that she has researched which doesn't use a phone line at all; and 3) we live right next together in rural Dump Truck, Oklahoma (not a real place) and would like to have them connected the same day.

I'm not sure what my uploading needs are. I'm on the internet most of my waking hours: emailing a LOT and researching stuff for homeschool mostly. So I'm not sure what kind of an unload max I would need.

My Brother lives in a very rural area of California and had the same problem... fine 26Kbs dial up connection ! He got Wild Blue about 2 years ago.

They came to install when they said they would, and did the installation on time, quickly, and professionally.

He has had NO problems with the service except in the WORST weather (snow or heavy rain/wind). He runs three computers networked thru his satellite system, and seems to get DSL speed and bandwidth.

The one thing to watch / check is your UPLOAD allowance... since that is the limiting factor in your system, Wild Blue sets a limit per month... so if you're cam-chatting or playing online games you can eat up that upload QUICKLY !!

Yeah, I was going to get wild blue.
But my dad was too cheap to get it.
They came to my house and wanted 250$ to set it up, and my dad sed no. So we got sbc. >=l
Figures.
I live in Pahrump, NV so there isn't anything else to offer.
