Is it true that the Powell Doctrine was abandoned because it was not consistent with perpetual war?

No, it was abandoned because Cheney and Rumsfield were idiots. The Doctrine was very much what we should have been following in Iraq. The reason we have the perpetual war was because the idiots did not apply that doctrine, which would have avioded our present mess.

probably. Colin Powell is a smart honorable man that was used by the less-than honorable Bush/Cheney administration.

It is too bad. If they had listened to them we would not be in this mess now.
