Every time I would lean my head back, my arms would go numb. During the day my neck was tired. At night I couldn't get it comfortable. I would wake up in the morning with my neck stiff. My DR finally sent me for a MRI. I had broken neck! Walked around like that for a few months! My 5th cervical vertebrae was fractured, crushed. From a roller coaster ride I took the summer before. I had to get the vertebrae removed and a metal plate is in it's place. DR said that when my arms went numb from tilting my head back, I was pinching my spinal cord. I'm lucky I'm not paralyzed.

I was stopped at a red light and a girl I know rear-ended me 32 years ago (insert dumb sex joke here).
I have had neck pain of varying degrees since. After a while, one just learns to deal with it.
