Hello - As it has already been suggested try Jane Norman, this shop offers a little less traditional style on the "prom dress" - Normally knee length, with gorgeous sequins and designs on them, they will look really nice for a prom. At the moment, there is black ones in - i brought one the other day for a party and it cost 13.50!! This dress was normally 50.00! Team it up with some killer heels from the Faith sale (i brought some for 10.00 should have been 65.00) and you have a perfect outfit. In Jane norman, do remember that the sizes typically work one less than it actually is. So i am a size 12 normally, so i always buy a size 14 in Jane norman. Sizes run from 6-16... though sizes at either end of the spectrum normally sell quicker.

In addition, depending how tall you are - Jane Norman also offers a exclusive range. Normally these are about 85.00 - in the sale about 30.00 - though the one i saw, was VERY long - so me being a 5"2 shortee... unless i could walk in 6" heels was just not going to happen!!

Don't look on Ebay for Jane norman wear, a dress which you can buy in the Jane norman sale for 13.50 is selling for 35.00 - because there isn't enough Jane Normans in the country!...

Ebay is a wonderful idea, have you thought that - as proms are normally in May (well mine is) that after the prom, people are going to be selling their prom dresses - only worn once in perfect condition - maybe need a 10.00 dry cleaning and you will pick one up for hardly anything?

If you have a little bit more money to spend - why not have a look in the Debenhams sale, i know personally, the one in Nottingham is quite good! My sister picked a gorgeous dress up from the Debuet range for just 24.50 - this dress should have been 100.00 ... so if you are willing to look around, you can deffinatly find what you are looking for!!

Other than that, im not sure what to recommend. How about going for something than the more obvious - perhaps a classic A-line skirt, and a gorgeous top? This would look really special, and also it has the added value - again team with killer heels.

If you are going down the Charity shop route - I suggest,

A) Looking plenty of time in advance.
B) Make sure you have your money with you when you look, as you know these are a first come first served sale basis - and they probably won't reserve it for you!
C) TAPE MEASURE.... often if the dress is quite old, sizes change! I read somewhere that a vintage dress is typically six sizes smaller than a size today - so a 12 back then is a 24 now!! so be careful - and don't get dishartend.

Remember, the key to a great dress is a perfect Bra. It can really pull the gown off - i suggest going to debenhams for a free Bra consultation, here they offer a free fitting, with no obligation to buy - i had mine done, and the woman put no pressure on me. I then went and brought one from New look for 8.00!!

I hope this helps :)

i went to a costume shop in the next state over and rented my dress.
Southern Bell dress, gold satin and black lace. It was breath taking and no one else at the prom had the same dress. It cost a third of what it would have cost to get a new dress that someone else would also be wearing.
I made a camio chocker, bought black Gloves, and ankle high, black stiletto boots, a complete look for less than $100.00
Good Luck in your search.
Blessings!

If you are only going to wear it the once then save your money and check out the charity shops . You will be surprised what you can get there. In some of the city charity shops you can get designer dresses for £20 - £50 . You just need to look

Ooh, lucky you! Here's my reccomendation:

If you have a Jane Norman store near you, go in now!! All the prom dresses, the gorgeous black silk ones with the flowers, are 70% off at the moment and most are down to about £14.

I wanted to get one but they're all size 10 and up. If that's good for you, then hurry and go buy one for yourself! They come in black with pink, purple, blue or silver flowers and are absolutely divine.

Have fun! xxxx

Try the salvation army.. *just kidding.*
Why don't you try ebay or I'd suggest stores like walmart, Kohl's (my cousin got her promdress there for only 25 dollars) or JC penny. Though I'd rather suggest a quality dress because a prom is something you'll remember for the rest of your life. But sitll, try these stores. Have fun!

try a vintage dress; they're often much cheaper than regular prom dresses, and the bonus is that since they are one-of-a-kind, no one will be wearing one just like it!

or, if you are an experienced sewer, or know someone who is, make a dress from a pattern to suit your individual tastes, and you'll only have to pay for the pattern and fabric!

good luck searching!

Try one of the Charity Shops that specialize in Wedding/Formal attire or try the ads in your local paper. If you don't want 2nd hand then try stores such as Littlewoods, BHS, Marks and Spencer or look for sales in the more expensive stores.
