No other fish just by itself.

One would do fine or you could fit in two wihout any problem at all.

I also have a powder blue gourami, however, when you say alone, do you mean without another of the same species..or completely alone in the tank. I have 6 other species of fish with mine and they all get along great...Beautiful fish...
I have been told...1 inch of fish per gallon

Sure, but it might be better if you had a pair. Mine seem to be community fish, I have 4, 2 pearl 2 gold.
