1. absolutely
2. lack of parental involvement, parents don't care, why should the kids, mean to say but stupid parents have stupid kids
3. mandatory parent/family service hours

I think those could be accomplished by schools, unfortunately, they are not priorities, finances and retarded government mandates are. Too much time is spent on meeting the required stuff instead of working on things that matter, like the ones you listed.

I teach at a tech center in Michigan, however, my children go to a private school, where I am required to volunteer 25 hours per child every year. Those things are not an issue at their school.

Too much emphasis on sports

Take extracurricular sports out of schools.
