The cheapest way to repair the carpet (not a permanent fix, but will work long enough to get your deposit back and move), is to find another piece of carpet the exact same type. If you didn't keep any scraps from the install, you will have to steal a piece from inside a closet or other place.

Cut the burn out of the carpet with an exacto knife or other razor knife, then cut a piece of carpet the same size from the new material. When you cut out the burn, remember to cut only through the carpet and its backing, not through the padding underneath. As close as possible to a square cut works best for me because it is easier to match the size. Use craft glue or white "glue all" on the bottom of the piece of new carpet and fit into the hole. Make sure it comes to the same level, then weigh down the peice with a heavy object or several big books.

After it dries (at least overnight if not 24 hours), vaccuum all directions until you can't see the patch.

This is cheaper than paying a carpet weaver and will last a long time, if you do it right. Practice makes perfect, so if you are unsure, practice on scrap pieces a few times.

Remember, in your next place or with your next new carpet install, keep a few leftover scraps for reasons like this. Even if you do go with a professional carpet weaver, the scraps will make the closest possible match.
