How did Shane end up taking care of Shay?

the dad ran off with another woman and the mom that was married to her dad left the boy at shanes house on the back porch and told shane that she had a present for her back there and she went to look and it was shay. by the time she came back out the woman was gone.
all this began at the wedding when shanes dad met a girl at the bar. he ended up running off with her and since his wife wasnt shay's biological mom she dropped him off at shanes house after shane got back from sherry jaffe's coke binge party. she basically came home to find her little brother on the back porch. they still dont know where the dad or the step mom are.

Well if you know Shanes' father left his wife for another woman and in the beginning of the season the wife showed up on Shanes doorstep depressed and saying she left a gift for her in the back(it was Shay ) and till this day she can not find the wife.

Their dad ran off and left Shay with his mom. The mom dropped him off with Shane. But if you saw last night's episode, their dad is back for some odd reason for an unknown amount of time.
