I was listening to a George Jones song, and it got me thinking. This world (or the musical world at least) is going to be a sad place when all the greats are gone. I mean, what future musical legends has this era produced? Whose talent can be compared to people like Robert Plant or Levon Helm? None that I can think of...

David Bowie and Peter Murphy aren't from this musical generation. And, I was only using Plant and Helm as an example...there are many more.

And, if Evanescence and Nickleback are the leading bands I rest my case.

Maybe Nickleback. But that is a far stretch at best. I hope Evanescence as it is rare for a Female to be the lead Singer of a Predominately male Band and Succeed .

Edit: I think They are good. But to put them in the Echelon of Zep or Floyd is blasphemy. I still believe if Evanescence can keep going they could be the next great band. Just not right now after only 2 Mega Albums.

I was listening to that same song the other day with a friend and we had a long discussion about that. Notice all the great music is considered "classic rock" what a shame! I hate it but, I think the days of great rock and deep roots country is over. These "bands" out now, most do not write music or have any individuality. All sounds the same to me anymore. The greats will always be remembered because of this though. Maybe that's a good thing at least. I feel you though, where has the music gone?

I'd have to say the great David Bowie from the 70and the 80s, Peter Murphy and Bauhaus from the 80s, Trent Reznor from the 90s til now. But what do I know, I always thought that Led Zeppelin was overrated and Robert Plant's voice was too girly like, so....

There are not many great rock bands out there, and I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan and nobody will ever be able to come close to their greatness. Although there are some bands that can rock pretty good. The Black Crowes are great band, and obviously Jimmy Page thinks that they are good because he toured with them for a little while. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are really good to, some of there songs are kind of out there but after they released their new album I am convinced that they can rock like any other band. There is also this other band out there called Silvertide, they aren't that popular but all of there songs are awesome and they have some really good riffs in them to, they are definitely one of my favorite modern day bands.

What about Pete Doherty? One of the most talented poets and lyricists of our time? He may not have the best voice but his songs have amazing meaning and depth that not a lot of people seem to be able to convey any more. His works with The Libertines and Babyshambles are hard to beat. You don't get much more talent than that.
