Kathy, you won't hear this anyplace else, and I can't tell you which is the "best" computer because when you get all the anti-virus and spyware killers loaded, I think they are all slow. I do know that last time I bought a "cheap" computer, it turned out to be the most expensive I ever owned because I spent so much money upgrading it to what I needed.

The FIRST thing you have to decide is WHAT will you use it for ? Then, shop around for the computer and model that comes equipped with the software you will need. For ex, if you are a music person, search for the computer model that comes equipped with the greatest amount of quality software for music. Likewise, if you are a home business person, a computer equipped with Microsoft Office might be your choice.

Likewise if you plan to do lots of music, vids, pics, etc., you'll need lots of storage (big hard drive).

Generally speaking, I wouldn't buy anything with less than the following:

Fastest processor you can afford
1 Gb RAM, preferably 2
300 Gb hard drive

Good Luck

There is no best computer.

It's like saying whats the best motor vehicle. I wouldn't need a huge full size max towing capacity truck just to drive around town or to school or something...same as I wouldn't want a little ford escort if I was trying to do farm work or hauling concrete.

It depends on what you are using it for...for gaming/video editing you will want a big harddrive/tons of ram/and a fast processor.

If you are going to use for desktop publishing (word/excel) and some internet browsing. you will just need a mediocre hard drive atleast 512 ram, 1gig is plenty..and maybe a slower processor.

There is no need to go all out on specs if you aren't going to use it. Many people will make you think you need a huge crazy spec pc but it really depends on what you are doing with it. Save as much dough as you can...its going to be out dated in 2 years anyways.

# 1 Mac doesn't get viruses that easily compared to Windows, and that is because Mac is unknown compared to windows.

#2 Windows is very vulnerable to virsues and that is because windows gets more attention than Mac. However, would you rob 10% of Pc users to get rich than to rob 90%? That's just a fact there.

Note that windows mean PC.

#3 Mac is limited to softwares

#4 Windows is not limited to softwares

#5 Mac is slower than PC

#6 PC is faster and more advantangeous than Mac

# 7 10% of the world use Mac, while 90% use PC

# 8 Mac uses two OS's at once, windows and Mac OS, and that is because Mac wants more attention by using windows OS
#9 PC only uses one OS, which is Windows, and they're various versions. PC will not run Mac OS, and that is because PC doesn't need Mac OS. Unlike Mac.

#10 Mac plays games, but very limited, while a PC is best known as entertainment computers, plays games to the max and much more.

You decide which one you refer now.

P.S. Anybody who said Mac has a better GPU ( Graphic Card) doesn't know crap about computer... PC has the best and most advance GPU over Mac by far, and that is because Windows needs the best Graphic card to play games. Unlike Mac, they're no good on playing games, so how would they have the best GPU?

Windows is much better. Get a Vista laptop. I recommend Dell over all computers... End of discussion

Anything really.
I don't usually buy name brands (Dell IBM Mac) unless I'm looking for a laptop (then I would go IBM)
Otherwise I usually have a store install to my specs.
Asus motherboard
Heat sink fans (for sure)
Hard Drive (try to find a fast seek time)
Video card (Radion etc something with a minimum of 64 meg)
Processor (Intel Pentium)
A min of a gig of RAM
A read/write DVD burner
etc

It costs a little more but the performance is a lot better.

Depends on what you want to do with it. But for general use, a bit a web browsing and the odd letter..... I doesn't matter. Just cheap from a high street store. If you have a plan of what you want it for then pick the machine that is the most suitable. Right tool for the job if you know what I mean.

Depends on what you're planning on using the computer for. Don't want to spend $$ on a computer with a bunch of Bells and whistles that you're not going to need or use.

If you want a computer that is completely customized and "Cheaper" in cost than a dell, talk to a computer builder. I build computers and if you would like some info. just email me.

Thanks,
Charlie
