It was not based on an actual true story that I know of. I had thought the same thing, but looked it up and could not find anything to prove it.

It's not based on a true story, (not that I could find), I think it's based on the fact with our health care situation the way it is, it's a real possibility that something like this could (and probably will) happen. The HMO's should not be allowed to decide who gets what kind of care, but some are definitely at there mercy. It's a very good, enlightening movie.

This is based on true story, it happened in the early eighties, the father was a hispanic farmworker who's daughter was dying, because of lack of insurance the doctors refused to save her life, so the father went into the hospitsl with a shotgun and forced doctors to operate, I watched it unfold on the news, they did operate and saved her, her father got 2 years in prison, the public was rooting for him, new health care laws were put into effect after this happened. He was considered a hero by the public and made every parent question whether they would have done the same thing.
