Because human nature is inherently evil. Our nature tells us to do whatever we have to, in order to benefit. Civilized people who have concern for others, resist human nature. We recognize that we need to treat others the way we would like to be treated.

I know that this sounds like a religious teaching (and it is), but that's why we have theft, murder and tyranny.

Survival of the fittest. Some people have an overwheming need or desire to control others before they become the controlled. They are needy on many levels and still have the emotional level of a child.

Fear, the need to control so you are not control. Also if you look like me maybe you are like me. Many persons can only feel good about them self if they are putting someone down. LOW SELF ESTEEM and the ease with which we as people like to follow, even at times when we know the other person is wrong the fear of being rejected by the majority.

Uncontrollable anger and GREED. There is no other reason.

Mental illness, vengeance, hormone excess, twinkies...all relate to uncontrollable anger.

GREED involves money, humans perceived as possessions, attention, control.

Call it population control. We don't have anyone/anything hunting our species. We thin it out through disease and our own stupidity.
