Buy a toothpaste squeezer like in the link below.

And don't squeeze too hard, you only need about a pea-size amount. Then close the toothpaste properly so you won't get toothpaste all over the cap and rim.

If a slight amount of toothpaste is still sticking out when you screw the cap on, then it will be spread over the screw part of the tube.
