I'm 8 months pregnant and my Dr said i dont have to remove the barbells. I am just wondering if i can keep the barbells in and only remove them when i pump/breastfeed.

You should at least remove the jewelry when breastfeeding, for several reasons.

For one, it could become dislodged and be a choking hazard when your baby is trying to eat. You wouldn't believe how powerful their suction can be!

For two, it could interfere with the baby's ability to get a good latch, leading to cracked and sore nipples, and a lot of pain for you (and frustration and hunger for your baby!)

Three, the jewelry could harbor bacteria, which you obviously don't want your baby to be eating when he or she nurses.

And four, if you haven't already noticed a difference in your nipples, you will by the time you give birth. Especially when your milk comes in, your nipples will get much larger and your breast size will increase (most likely dramatically). This might make it uncomfortable for you to wear the nipple jewelry in the first place. You may find you have to take it out before you even give birth because it might become painful as the skin is stretched.

In this case, I think the risks far outweigh the benefits of leaving it in. Why take the chance?

I think it's fantastic that you're planning to breastfeed your baby. Congratulations!! You're about to embark on the most incredible journey any mother gets to experience in her entire life, in my opinion.

If you need any help at all with the breastfeeding, feel free to contact me. I'd love to help if I can!

You might be risking an infection by taking them out and putting them back in. Not to mention all the work!!! You will need to thoroughly clean your barbells when removing, clean your nipple holes and reinsert after feeding. Then do it al lover again. Your newborn will be eating about every 1.5-2 hours (sometimes sooner) and possibly for 20-30 minutes at a time (sometimes longer). Your breasts will be hard and sore and I would recommend just taking them out altogether. You're not going to have the time to devote to your piercings to make sure they're clean and not harmful to baby or milk. Maybe later when your on a more set schedule with feedings you could do that. Don't overload yourself in the first couple of months. Good luck.

I had my nipple's done as well and when I was pregnant my doc told me I should take them out if I were thinking of breast feeding, because it's a choking hazard, also the 2 holes you have in your nipple will start leaking milk. It gets kinda gross after while. And unless you just feel like you couldn't have them peirced again I would go ahead and take them out, allow your nipples to heal some before the baby. Cause when they fill with milk and they are OH so SENSITIVE just feeding will be a job in it's self. So I promise you will not want to have to take out the bar bell and the put it back. Hope everything work's out for you but I know about this stuff be there already...

I was told that you cannot I had my nipples pierced and I was told to take them out as soon as I found out I was pregnant so they could heal before I had the baby. I don't know if there is any proof that this has to be done but I was told that they have to come out.

You should remove them to make it easier for your child to get the hang of breast feeding. It's hard for a lot of babies to get comfortable breast feeding without the piercings so it's probably in the babies interest to remove them. Best of luck and hope you have a safe delivery to a healthy little one!!!
