The pope talks to God but so can everyone else. The pope is special because he is a moral leader of many people throughout the world. He talks to God about many things including how to make the world a better place and his own relationship with God and others.

I personally as a protestant. Don't think he is anymore special than any other head of state. As to weather he talks to God. Probably and many people say he gets answers. I do caution people with this line of thinking as each pope has policies and beliefs that are contradictory from the previous Pope.

It's the cool hat and car; He's like a super-hero!

Seriously, I think the pope is to the catholic church what the president is to the government. What he says isn't necessarily the word of God, but merely the official church opinion. This also means that all members of the church do not necessarily have to agree with it, but they do have to uphold it or risk whatever associated repercussions.

He is the leader of the Catholic faith, one of the largest Christian Churches in the world as well as the wealthist. That alone makes him as special as any leader of any multi-national corporation.

That is a good question. He's no better than a crumb-bum drinking a 40 once and hanging around a fire barrel to keep warm if you ask me.
