I'm only 5 weeks but for the last week I have had serious allergies and a cold (nasal congestion, sore throat, and small cough).
Before conception I had the stomach flu for two weeks, which makes me worry that my nutrients are low.
I have been drinking a lot of water and vitimin c enriched drinks but I have no appitite.
Could this cold cause a miscarriage or am I being over paranoid? We are really worried because my husband and I have been ttc for 9 months now and we are really happy it finally happened.

We're also in the process of finding a new ob because the one we first chose wouldn't see me till 8 weeks. When I tried calling and talking to the nurse about my cold, she said the doc still wouldn't see me and "not to worry, you'll be fine." That may be so, but I didn't appreciate the brush off. And my reg doctor won't see me because he won't see pregnant patients for any reason (his policy to cover his own @$$).

As long as your not filling youself with over the counter drugs id say that youd be ok. Take your prenatal vitamins to keep nutrients in YOU. Your baby will take what it needs from you, your most likely the only one to get run down here. I had an allergic reaction that caused me to become deyhdrated and covered in hives along with puking at 8 weeks. My son is alive and well and very healthy.

Hello, I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I have had 4 years of conceiving and miscarrying and I have never heard of a virus being the cause. There are a zillion different reason a person miscarries. As for the Dr. not seeing you until 8 weeks that is very common and no matter what OB you choose they will probably tell you the same thing not to mention by the time you get into the new Dr. you will be 8 weeks anyhow. My advice is to stay calm, worrying will not change the outcome. Try to eat the three meals a day and take your vitimins. I think it's safe to take Tylenol and Sudafed for your cold-check with your Dr. Just remember that you truely have NO control over your pregnancy at all just try to control you anxiety. Good Luck and I hope this helped. :)

A lot of dcotors do wait till your 8 weeks or more although cause of your cold and worry it seems a bit off they wont see you. Miscarriage in the first trimester is rarely ever caused by something you do or have, its normally that something was not right with pregnancy or other one off problems. You are doing the right thing with your water and vits. Take it easy and try to relax. Good Luck with finding a new OB.

No! It will not cause a miscarriage. But avoid medications, which can cause some problems.

Good luck, and congratS!

I smoked what you do for 15 years. I quit cold turkey and had no issues...when I told my doctor at my first appt he was very happy, didn't say anything about it being bad for me. I honestly think that whole "it's too stressful on the baby" is used by people trying to justify just cutting down and not quitting completely. You can do it! Good luck!!!
