Perhaps you can look for a congregation, a religion, where people smile at you accepting you, instead of gawking at you. There are some out there

At one time I was engaged to an Egyptian Gentleman - until he saw my first tattoo on my left wrist. The tattoo is still there, since I had gotten it as a special gift for a very special lover, I then, lived with.
It happened to be a Bear, well the head of a bear, because I had only 35 dollars with me and that's what JUST a head cost to tattoo.
Well to go back to my story, Rafik, the Egyptian betrothed to me, asked what I was doing with a bear on my wrist . . to which I answered :'You've got a problem with that?" And he said, "In Egypt women wear tattoos only symbolizing God!"
Since he said this, with such indignation and reprimand in his tone, I teasingly answered, "If the choice is between a bear and God, I'll go for the bear!!!"
Well, without saying, that was the end of the engagement, Thank Bear!
By the way, My later lover was a non-theist Finn! - he didn't care if I had a skull and cross bones tattooed to my wrist he was simply happy that I had thought of him so especially, on the day of his birthday! The tattoo complimented his name in Finnish which meant Bear-land.
My next special, much beloved lover who left an impression deserving he'd be catalogued on my flesh, was a Central American gent, who seemed to identify with jaguars - so for his 3rd birthday with me I has tattooed on my right wrist a lovely jaguar, with an elaborate band around it, making it a bracelet.
I thought he'd be pleased, but instead, he scolded me, saying "jaguars" were best left in their natural jungle habitat.
So - the next tattoo I got for myself : a tattoo of the Goddess Kali, with her long tongue out in mocking mode, eyes bulging with challenge and a string of skulls around her shoulders coming all the way down to her knees.
To this day, no one has dared mention anything against this tattoo . . they must realize, it is simply, a THING between Kali (the Goddess of creation and Destruction) and me!
No need for comment. Agree?
