Why not. As an engineer, the government would just take a third or more of your pay anyway. Why let them tax your brain and reap the rewards, too? Who is John Galt?

Short Bus, your name says it all. If you cannot make a living at an engineer's salary than by all means go to work as a garbage man. You forget that the majority of government jobs trade good benefits and security for lower pay than the private sector. Do you think that with a substantial pay cut you will be able to better afford the various insurance add-ons that your mortgage company requires?

If your job doesn't pay enough look for a better one. If your not qualified for a better one get more training. If you are too lazy or unwilling to do either than go to work for some mind numbing government bureaucracy where excellent performance is not rewarded like it is in the private sector. Its called freedom of choice. Excercise it, it will make you happier.

Sure be a garbage man....You will be in the same boat, as most government is going the route of the private sector....but on the bright side, look at all the free stuff you might find in the CEOs garbage...

There's a lot of garbage at 1600 Pennsylvania avenue right now. You'd have a big job hauling it all out in 2008.
