Because for some reason we are still hanging on to Victorian attitudes towards nudity and yet at the same time, appear to be sex obsessed, but don't like to admit it. Look at any tabloid newspaper and feel the full brunt of this stupidity. They deplore any sexual activity, particularly in the public eye and take a firm moralistic view of it, but they plaster every other page with topless women. Where's the sense in that?! This country's sexual focus has always very reserved, like a 'brush it under the carpet, don't tell the kids' sort of way. That's probably why we are the teenage pregnancy capital of Europe.

Do you know of any country where it is not shunned?
It has been normal for human beings to conver themselves since the beginning. All cultures have had some form of covering, although in some it was extemely skimpy, even symbolic.
Ironically, absolutel nudity is not natural.

There are naturist sites within the UK but, honestly, I think the weather plays a part in the general populace's psyche with regard to naturism.

"They must be mad to want to strut about naked in this weather..."

Weather aside, I believe we don't like naturism because the people who practice this tend to be fat ugly people who look awful naked. I know that doesn't apply to all of them but in general the description is apt. I also think that they aren't 'all the ticket'!

I think it's because we're all too shy to show our bits in public, and that's on top of all the prudish up-bringing by the Victorian families.
