I care very much about what happens around me. I try to help poor people, stray and sick animals, etc, not because I have free time or money to spend, but because I can't help it. When I hear children in Africa are hungry or women imprisoned or stoned for adultery in Asia, or children molested, or baby seals skinned alive, I feel horrible. I mean it really affects me. Do I have a psychological problem or is it normal that when these horrible things happen I can't just look the other way, forget about them and enjoy myself?

I think you're a very good person that you can't help but help, I'm similar to you. No, I dont think you have a psychological problem, I just think you have a big heart.

you do not have psychological problems, you have a big caring heart and that makes you special. Just take a deep breath each time and say a prayer for those less fortunate and try to help where you can. You will feel better knowing that you are a caring human being. God bless.

Not so much depressed as feeling guilty for things that had nothing to do with your actions. There is nothing wrong with wanting to help people but when it gets to the point where you feel bad all the time about things that you can control, much of which is just the normal way the world works, then it may be time to seek professional help.
