I recently watched the Departed and I just can't figured out if he was a dirty cop or if he killed out of revenge.

At first I thought so when I saw it in theaters, but when I bought it and watched it again, I think that he is a clean cop with a serious South Boston attitude.

There is actually nothing to suspect him directly except all the other dirty cops around him. I think he took his leave of absence, let all the chips fall, and finished the job before going back to work.

I also think that the envelope he gave the the therapist towards the end and said he was laying low for two weeks meant he was waiting for Wahlberg's two week leave to be done, and she sent the envelope to him after his death.

Wahlberg's personality absolutely quits being a cop, so he's not a cop at the same time as he kills Damon's personality, the reason why he became donning what he became donning is because he would not depart any hint of DNA on the scene of the crime -- the appropriate homicide, because he's commonplace with what the detectives will be searching for.

He's not a dirty cop, just killed out of revenge. Matt Damon's character was the dirty cop.

Revenge, if anything other then Martin Sheen's character, Mark Whalberg's character was the most honest and loyal. He killed Damon's character out of revenge.
