I'm surprised that your dr didn't give you more info, other than just the results. May be if you contact you local fire department they will have advice. Good luck.

not only paint chips are the source, if you have anything with lead around then your child could get exposure. Lead paint is the most common, and doesn't have to be ingested. Lead paint lets out lead dust which can be inhaled.

If lead paint is not the source I would look into the chance that he came in contact with any cords or perhaps your artificial xmas tree if you had one. Lead stays in the body so it could have VERY easily been from christmas time.

All new wires/cords are coated with lead to make them flame resistant. Also ALL artificial christmas trees are coated with lead to make them flame resistant (as well as all new chirstmas light cords)
The scary thing is ONLY california requires manufactures to put a warning label on these products for lead.
here is the Childrens Health Coalition warning on fake christmas trees and holiday lights.

If he had a lot of contact with these or if you did and never washed your hands after then these could have been the problem.

Also have your water tested for lead, sometimes there is lead in the water for varrious reasons, even if you don't have lead pipes.

a 4th source, but uncommon would be contact to OLD pewter. Pewter (the metal) used to be made with lead. It is not anymore however older items made out of pewter can easily have been made with lead.

If he has a high lead level I would also check your lead level as well as you may also

The most common reason for this is babies get a hold of chipping paint and eat it. Yes...it sounds terrible but it can happen without you realizing it. Check around your house for chipping paint. Or it could be the paint on your walls is very old and is lead based. You may just need to repaint. You can try doing a search on lead poisining and do some research.

Check the materials in your house, household appliances, toys, windows, drains, etc, and try to make sure you and your son wash your hands thoroughly with running water and soap and rinse well before eating. Also check the baby foods he is eating, or try giving him fresh foods, organic preferably.
