I have a wireless network set up and will be allowing a roommate access on it. It is secured WEP with a passphrase and everything. However I am confused - once I give this person access, is it just to the internet or is there actually some way for them to access any pc connected on this network? If it's the latter, how can I avoid that while still allowing that person access to internet? Thanks!

you have to disable sharing on the network in control panel/ network... to verify this go to Start/my network places/view workgroup cpus/ make sure you are not listed on there and if you are double click to see what is being allowed.

Just because computers are on the same network does not mean that they can access each other. If you have file sharing enabled, then that can be used to share folders.
However, if that person really really wants into your computer, then there are ways. It would be easier for the roommate to just wait til you gone to sit at your computer.

You can set your wireless network up either way. You have to enable file sharing (and you can set it up for the printer also) for someone to access your files. Otherwise, they'll just have internet access. Hope this helped!

As others have shared, make sure you don't have sharing enabled. You are more vulnerable from him than from a random person on the Internet (though not much more). Make sure you have a firewall installed; modern versions of Windows come with one, go into Start/Control Panel and select Security Center and Windows Firewall, and make sure it is on, or buy a third-party firewall if you don't have a built-in one.

For a second I thought your handle meant "Future Psychopath". :-)
