Weaveworld is relatively old, actually, 1980's I believe, but quite good. It's very, very dense and definitely rated R. Abarat is (as far as I know) his newest series; I've read the first 2 and they are excellent. Still keeping his unusual imagination, but leaving out all the sex and a lot of the gore, so it's appropriate for anyone who can handle the reading level. He also did all the artwork in those books, which is fantastic, as you can see what's in his head! My 10-year-old daughter just finished the first and loved it. He also published a short book (really!!) with a young protagonist called The Thief of Always, which I would highly recommend.

You asked earlier if people had read "Weaveworld." I read it and wasn't impressed, so I put the book away for 3 or 4 years and read it again (my standard response to a book I don't like). That second reading still left me unimpressed so I got rid of the book. I've read 2 or 3 other books by Clive Barker. He is imaginative and a good writer, but something about the way he tells his stories doesn't appeal to me. It's just one of those personal preference things, like whether you prefer Hellman's Mayonnaise or Duke's. Do read "Weaveworld" and some of his other books. They're definitely deserving of an audience. And, you may just discover a new favorite.
