You need fresh and different ideas as in.... you want someone to tell you it's okay to drink? Not gonna happen.... it's a really really bad idea. Unless you don't want the child.

I am telling you this story not to scare you but to put the issue of pregnancy into reality (i dont think that sentence is correct english but you know what i mean) My sister has 2 healthy sons, last summer while she was expecting her 3rd child, as in all her pregnancies, she avoided EVERYTHING that she believed might be bad for the unborn baby, she never touched a drop of alcohol, would not go in the same room as someone who was smoking, and refused meds from the midwife even though her nausea was so severe she was losing weight. Anyway, her baby died at 16 weeks gestation due to an umbilical cord accident. - Sorry, dont be scared about this, just trying to make my point. My opinion is that as long as you dont overdo it, everything happens for a reason. I dont believe a small glass of wine everyday will harm your baby. And maybe you could have half a glass with some lemonade in it? Congratulations xx

I wouldnt risk it again personally, even though it was Xmas and New Year when I began to try for first child and didnt think I'd get preg until for least 6 mths but I fell immediately and also went for a wine tasting session in Jan. My son is perfect - physically and mentally - very clever, but when he was born 2 weeks early he was only 5 1/2 lbs and the doctor asked if I was a heavy smoker (I've never smoked) as his placenta was damaged so I guess that might have been the alcohol. Thank God he was Ok though.

You should google fetal alcohol syndrome and you can see true stories for yourself. Is drinking wine (or any alcohol) that necessary that you won't even put it down while you're pregnant? If the answer is yes, you may want to consider not having children because the only thing worst than having a child with FAS is having a FAS child raised by an alcoholic that can't tend to their needs.

I work with children with special needs, a couple fo which have FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome). You should not drink any alcohol at all while pregnant. Some say an occasional glass of wine is okay, but the doctor's I work with say not to drink at all. There is no point in taking a chance with youir child's well being.

The answer is no alcohol at all during the nine months of pregnancy. My daughter's friend drank a little during the 1st trimester and now her baby who is 2 years old has delayed learning. So be careful. No pills, no drugs, no anti depressants; the whole gamit. Anything you ingest goes through the placenta and into the baby's system. It may not show up at first, but then you will see it surface in learning disabilities, ADD/HD, and so many other childhood problems. So my advice is to eat healthy, get alot of sleep, take your natal vitamins, follow doctor's orders, and you will have a healthy baby but absolutely no alcohol/drugs/anti depressants/of any kind.

this isnt a true story, its a look in the past. remember that 30 (let alone 40) years ago, much less was known about the possible effects of alcohol during pregnancy. therefore, many women continued to drink (and even smoke) through their whole pregnancy and still produce a perfectly healthy baby.

If you have had a few sips or glass before you knew you were pregnant most likely baby will not have any problems. There is such a diagnosis as fetal alcohol syndrome. No known limit is safe so why take a chance? I know someone who on a few occasions had a glass or two of wine while pregnant and their son who is now in school is being tested for learning disabilities.

Well, sure. Lots of it can cause disability, yes. But.

"The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recently conducted a large study including 400,000 American women, all of whom had consumed alcohol during pregnancy. Not a single case of fetal alcohol syndrome occurred and no adverse effects on children were found when consumption was under 8.5 drinks per week. 3

A recent review of research studies found that fetal alcohol syndrome only occurs among alcoholics. The evidence is clear that there is no apparent risk to a child when the pregnant woman consumes no more than one drink per day. 4"

You probably know that heavy drinking can lead to FAS. However, lesser drinking can cause FAE (Fetal Alcohol Effects), which cause a range of birth defects and can impair mental cognition. While every pregnancy is unique, I don't think that I would risk it. My sister-in-law, who is a nurse, said that after your first trimester, it's okay to drink 4 oz. of wine a day. I've also had friends that had an occasional margarita....after their first trimester. Your doctor knows best, so ask him/her. God bless!
