When you look on a keyboard, you see the the 10 digits atop all the letters. They're listed as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0. Why aren't they listed as 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9?

its like that everywhere.
take you mobile phone and look at the keypad.

its because of the number systems we had in the old times.
roman numbers dont have a zero. and zero came to life only when the arabs and indians introduced.

when someone asks you the first number, you dont say 0, ( or negative infinity), its 1.
1 comes to everones head, whether its correct or wrong is secondary.

and so it is 1 2 3 ... 8 9

after 9 comes 10, and here it is appropriate to use 0, as it is the second digit.

when you count you start with 1
these are counting or real numbers
so the keyboard starts with 1 just like everyone starts with when counting
however zero must be added to make all numbers possible...i.e. you can't write 400 without two zeros

most digits are listed as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0

Because 1 is the least natural number. It makes more sence to put it at the beginning then 0.

Because 0 used to be a speecial number (like 911 or 411) and enabled you to reach the operator. They wanted it to be placed in an easiliy remebered and accessible location.

My guess is that zero is seldom a leading digit, so it would be the next place higher, as ten tops nine and 100 tops 99, etc.

because here o stands for 10 & if 0 is kept first it has no value

The same reason that the letters of the alphabet are not in the right order.

because no one uses the 0 button as zero
they use it as ten so they put it after nine
