REPLYING TO THE FIRST POST- Water dragons do not get to 1-1/2 feet long! Where do you get your info! They get to 3ft! Iggys are a minimum of 5ft at full length! Also, your information isn't particularily acurate... Sorry for the attack, but people need to know about iggys before they buy them because too many people think they stay small!
REPLYING TO SECOND POST: Water dragons can be kept in screen mesh cages. Its not good for them to be in glass because they'll rub their noses and get bad cuts. Thats what happened to mine and now he has a bad cut on his nose that will be ther forever. Glass and wire arent good but screen is ok. If the cage is big enough they will not rub and they'll be content. Mine is anyway.
Well, the better pet is the water dragon. They're tame and my baby is adorable, loving, and VERY trusting of people. He rides on my shoulder sometimes, even!
The 'much better looking' one is the Water dragon(in my opinion cuz they have big spikes and they are a VERY beautiful green when happy).
The nicer one is DEFINATELY the Water dragon. My iggy tail whips us and bites and all that good (meaning BAD) stuff. My water dragon can eat out of our hands but thats not a good thing cuz when he's 3 feet long I dont want to be feeding him out of my hand lol.
The easier to take care of is the Water dragon. They need to be fed insects (which are cheap and easy to get at FlukerFarms.com, 500 mealies or 250 crickets, 5$ delivered and you can have them delivered on a weekly or monthly basis.). They also need a large cage, but not nearly so large as an iggy. The cage can be six long, three wide, and 5 or six tall and be fine. An iggy would require a cage at least the size of a bedroom by the time he's full grown!
Why does the water dragon win without competition? They are beautiful, tame animals that are friendly towards humans. They are the green sidekick to the Bearded dragon, almost! Plus, the Iggy will cost over $200 more than a water dragon in the end... The greens you have to feed a full grown iggy are VERY expensive.
Whatever choice you make, be sure you can keep an animal thats REALLY large. And if you need more help please feel free to email me. I love getting emails! Well, have fun!

I suggest Chinese Water Dragon because it has a stronger color while the iguana's looks kind of faded... But the crest of the Green Iguana looks cool... Just pick the Chinese Water Dragon though!

pro's and con's on both. a water dragon is a little more difficult to care for but it does not grow to be 6 foot long. both are beautiful. just google both and read the info. I own both here are a few things I have learned.
water dragons need to be kept in an aquarium mine are in a 60g not cheap. iguanas can be kept in wire type cages less expensive. setups for aquariums are usually more exp. both require hands on care. research both before you make your decision.

your saying a water dragon knows the difference between screen and glass "no rubbing on screen but glass ok." not hardly a water dragon rubs its nose in an attempt to escape. if you get a screen that is tight enough that the dragon will not attempt to escape from then you defeat the purpose you cant see them. if you apply an aquarium background or something else 5 inches up on the aquarium it works the same and you can still watch him. I have 3 none rub there nose but there humidity is at 80% something you will not obtain and keep in a mesh screen enclosure. now as far as size see the websites below. 3 feet is about normal.

Get a Water Dragon, they are smaller and take less room. Also there are way easier to care for then Iguanas by far, because Iguanas food cost a lot and then you have to cut it up everyday. With Water Dragons they eat both veggies and insects but mostly insects so it's cheaper and you don't have to cut hard veggies for hours. I also think water dragon can be much nicer, and tend to be more colorful.

well both can be nice, or mean.
both are very pretty, inparticular i love iguanas
iguanas get to be 3-5 feet long.
water dragons get to be at most 1 1/2 feet
water dragons eat both veggies and crickets and small mice
iguanas are vegetarians
both require heating bulbs
both require uvb/uva bulbs
water dragons should have half land/ half water setup in a 55 gallon long aquarium
the intitail cost of the iguna will be alot more, cause it should have a 90 gallon long and wide terrarium.
if you dont mind feeding live crickets and dead mice, go for the water dragon.
but if you like preparing gourmet meals every day, go with the iggy.
