I'm 22 yrs old and a cutter, I have been for almost 11 years. I went to counseling and all they have pointed out each time is "you're a self mutilator." I just kinda gave up on counseling, but I am slowly working on cutting myself less and less. I am starting to reach out to family about my problem so when I get the urge to cut, I just call someone, but it doesnt always help. You arent alone so dont feel bad. If you would like to talk to someone please dont hesitate to email me at all.

I used to do that, when I was a teenager. I am male. It can temporarily make you feel better, but it's risky because you might seriously injure yourself or get infections. A simple staph infection can lead to serious illness or death if untreated, believe it or not. Also, scars look like crap; I have seen people in the mental hospital who have scars all over their bodies. I hope you talk to a doctor about it.
Nowdays, I prefer eating hot peppers. Try eating habanero or scotch bonnett peppers, it has almost exactly the same effect as cutting because both activities release the brain's natural pain killer--endorphins. That's the real appeal of cutting, the endorphin buzz.
Yeah, I think cutting is more common with females. I don't know why, but I think males tend to be more aggressive and are more likely to play sports or have other activities where pain is involved (like football, hockey, or just getting into fights), or they are more likely to overindulge in alcohol or drugs instead of cutting. There's also a higher rate of suicide in males than females.
I have had treatment for depression for about 20 years, and I also work for a mental health agency.

umm...you can seek some counselling...
i don't think cutting = seeking attention though. its actually more like trying to become forgotten. try looking for someone to which you can open up bit by bit. maybe some friends. life seems useless and tragic if you keep carrying your problems by yourself.
and females do more cutting than males because females are more emotional...but when males try to hurt themselves, its less frequent but more hurtful.
hope i can help.

Yes, I know people who do. You and they are in desperate need of help. Someday you will be in such emotional pain that you cut too deep and no one will be there to help. Please call a psychologist or psychiatrist to get professional counseling right away. Therapy, and maybe meds, or both, can make a huge difference!

Yes, this unfortunate behavior is something that occurs in females more than males. If you cut, please get counseling/help so that you will stop it and learn more appropriate and healthy ways to deal with stress and depression.
Good luck.

You can stop if you want to. Act in plays or find some other way to get attention. Go to a counselor.

Get checked out for low blood sugar (hypoglycemia, pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome). It may be why your brain is asking for pain.
Check out www.hufa.org, the symptoms link for other symptoms you may have that are also due to low blood sugar.
