Paypal is a way to keep your financial information "hidden" from a seller. It's mainly used on eBay, but it's also used by many to make donations because it's fast (because it's electronic) and "safe". You'll need a bank account, generally, to set up a PayPal account and you'll need to verify small deposits that PayPal makes into your account. The downside are the PayPal fees, even on eChecks, and that if someone "hacks" into your account, they can wipe out your bank account. Many people use PayPal to keep their credit card number out of the hands of merchants online, but it also provides a certain level of protection on eBay.
