I'm just scared of getting spyware because I've had problems in the past? What sites could you recommend.

These programs are fine, but it's really just the content that you download that harms you. Make sure you run a virus scan on everything you download, as viruses can easily be hidden in a file using this method: A .exe is a program file which contains a virus. This file is renamed with a .mp3 extension. The file appears to be an MP3, but when you click on it, it unleashes a virus on your computer. Always read reviews before you download something, and scan the stuff you download before you open it. You may also be interested in bittorrent. It's another way of downloading things. Google it.

What do you consider safe? The site is filled with spyware, so personally I dont use it. But I know folks that havent had any "major" problems with it

limewire is safe to download music and video but not programs and about spyware just buy like spyware doctor or spysweeper

Shareaza is a good one (www.shareaza.com) it's spyware-free. The only problem you'll have is that you are downloading copyrighted materials.
Also I'd advise you to download and install a spy/adware protection such as Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.spybot.info) it's a good one and it's free.
