you do not have to remove the male. he will not harm the babies. he will however try to breed your female again very soon after she has the babies. he will also try to breed the female babies after 3 or 4 weeks. so if you don't mind more babies you don't really have to remove him. but it would be very good for your female to have some time to recuperate after birth and some time to let her body rest and heal. i would put daddy in a different cage but let him have supervised visits with mom and babies. by supervised i mean keep a very close eye on him to be sure he doesn't breed her again too soon. if you take him away and don't let them interact daily your female may not allow him to be put permanently back in her cage. good luck!! and don't listen to these jerks who say rude things to you. maybe they feel bad about themselves and need to be mean to others to feel better.

guinea pigs actually make great fathers, unlike other small mammals. you should leave the male in until about 3 weeks after they are born. make sure you have an extra cage for him. after 3 or 4 weeks, depending on your pig, he may see them as a threat to his dominance, or his female. better start looking for guinea pig homes!

good luck with your new pigs!

Why take the male away now? It's like closing the barn door after the cows got out isn't it? jk Actually, I have no idea when/if the male should be removed from the cage or not. Call a pet store that sells hamsters & see what they say.

Why did you decide to get her pregnant when you obviously aren't knowledgeable about breeding?
