I passed through Tooting daily for some years and have known it since childhood. It it basically a dull slab of south London suburbia largely developed around 1900 with tight packed streets of terraced housing. It is similar to numerous other parts of London with no distinguishing features at all really! It does at least have stations on the tube (Northern line). Lately it has become the front line in the increasing gentrification of London. Yuppies and city types, priced out of areas nearer to the city (Wandsworth, Clapham etc.) and attracted by easy tube transport are now starting to colonise Tooting - with a consequent
effect on prices. If you can't afford Wimbledon or Clapham then Tooting is OK - you could do worse - but it's hardly exciting!

I moved here four years ago. It's a nice place to live. I always feel safe coming home late at night when alone and walking. There are not much variety in the way of shops though, not a single book shop! There is a very very high Asian population and the local shops reflect this. There are first rate Asian restaurants as a result. There is no cinema or really good pubs. There is very little to do here in the evenings. The shops are locally owned which is nice, and there is a fascinating choice of, to me, exotic veg and fruit for sale. There is a run down indoor market which has lots of character. It is 25 mins from central London by tube. And to the south west is Wimbledon and to the west is Putney. Mitcham to the east. Streatham to the north. Tooting is considered a poor area and a bit down market. There is no Waitrose here but there is a Lidl's.

Great place to live in. I live in Tooting Bec for 25 years. I bough my house in 74 for 9000 pounds and sold it in 1995 for 300,000 pounds and went up to Westminster's flat.

Both my two children were born and bred in Tooting Bec. Got a lot of parks, variety of restaurants, shops and good schools. I move ot, because my children have grown up and found places of their own. I needed a small but comftble flat. hence, old County Hall flats.

I would recommend Tooting to anybody. Its coming up all the time.

All the best!/
