I strongly think that Josh Smith will win the title this year. He is averaging 1.5 steals per game, 2.7 blocks per game (which is unusual for a small forward,) and 8.2 rebounds per game. He is blocking more than Ben Wallace (last year's Defensive Player of the Year.) This guy is tremendous. He can also score, averaging a decent 15 points per game.
Marion is also a good defensive player. I think he will come in second or third. For now, it is early to tell. Anyone can raise their numbers any day. I just think that these two are the top contenders right now.

Why Josh Howard? Shawn marrion does everything he does... only BETTER. Howard averges 1 block and 1 steal... Marion averges 2 steals and 2 blocks (roughly) they also take in consideration in devensive rebounding, that's why big men usually win it. But my pick would either be Marion or Josh SMITH. Marion averges 2.2 steals and 1.5 blocks, while Josh Smith averges 2.7 blocks and 1.5 steals, and they both can rebound (marions better though)
