Normally you should have it at the half way point. You can probably get a cheap thermometer at Home depot and place it in the freezer. 0 or -10 is a good temp for the freezer., 38 to 45 for the frig. One of the biggest problems if it is not cold enough is dirt. If you have pets or a dusty floor the dust is drawn into the condenser coil and it is unable to release heat. Unplug the frig and clean out debris under it. Depending on what model you have you may have a small fan in the bottom in the back. dirty is also a problem with you home AC unit as well. They all rely on heat transfer or absorbing heat in one place and releasing it elsewhere. The smallest layer of dust can be a costly insulator.

there is usually an option that is right in the middle of really cold and warmer. I would set them both in the middle. If things in your fridge start to freeze (my lettuce usually freezes) then turn it just a little warmer (but not too much!)
