Different organisms have different breeding strategies, adaptations that work for that species to ensure that at least one offspring survives to breed again in another generation.

There are critters that use each of these strategies, and other critters that breed under totally different circumstances, or constantly.

I'd say D is the closest thing to a correct answer here, but 'environmental factors' is a pretty broad term.
