My wife of 25 years left to the united states, 3 years ago. We were married in Belgium and we had 4 children all registered as US citizens with the us embassy in Brussels. I can not get divorced in Belgium from her without a lengthy and costly procedure. Meanwhile I have obtained a copy of her new marriage license from the County in Texas where she lives. In that document she used her married name and not her maiden name to get married.
Surely this is not legal to start with as it involves a false statment as to her identity. Secondly she is still married technicaly we have not gotten divorced so this is also according to the law illegal.
I would like to know to whom i should address myself to commence legal proceedings, or file a complaint.
thanks

First, contact the District Attorney's office in the county where she lives. Report the matter to them.

If they don't help you, try contacting the Texas Attorney General's office for help. Good luck.

File your complaint with the Embassy in Brussels. If for some reason they don't want to do anything, go to the State Department about it. Let them know that she is married to someone else, and let them know where she is. Bigamy is illegal anywhere in the world. Especially in Texas.

And how do you know she didn’t get divorced in Texas (or another state)? Once she was a resident of a state, she could file for divorce there even though she was married in another country.

Would your country recognize the divorce? I don’t know. Would the U.S. recognize it? Absolutely.
