Watch the movie, "City of God." Every man has his breaking point. I'd say if given Knockout Ned's circumstances, I would've done the same thing.

Being trapped in a room with a radical liberal and listening to his pontificating. Of course after I snap the liberal would either be dead or have changed his stance on non violence.
