To me, it's a total waste of space. I hate the way our society drools all over the celebrities in this country and praises them with awards for all of their "work". Who cares - they're actors. Try getting a real job.

Basically Oscar Awards Nomination is a celebration.A celebration of cinema .Most of times really good films are awarded and from personal experience i must tell you that the nominees are very skillful and talented.
On the other hand Oscar serves some purpose like marketing ,that's why a lot of great men of the cinema have never been awarded like Stanley Kubrik or Martin Scorsese(until tonight i believe).
It is a big fest !Think it that way !!!!

I agree with you 100%. I could care less about the academy awards or who wins what. I can not stand the way that movie actors try to define themselves as "artists" , please you speak the same line over and over again into a camera.
In ancient Greek and Roman times, the actor was treated as just a employee, as a mouthpiece. the celebrated one was the writer of the play or performance. That is what is real.
Movie actors are nothing special, they just want you to beleive that they are. they are wayyyyy overpaid and really offer nothing to society in general. What diseases have they cured? What wars have they stopped?

I don't really care, plus I haven't seen any of the movies. I don't get mad over it, though. Praising celebrities as if they were the most extraordinary persons to have ever walked this earth has been around for quite a while.

I used to be able to watch the Oscars and visited the theater when I lived out there. But, over time it has become a pampering, sappy glam-fest for some over-bearing prima-donnas. Sometimes, I think the most work they do is stretching their own arms to pat them selves on the back!!

What I think is really ridiculous are the Oscar office pools that seem to be springing up, treating the whole spectacle as if it were some kind of sports event. Get a life people...
